We are delighted to welcome back the brilliant Al Phemister for GIGANTIC - our show of artists working on a GRAND scale that opens this week.

Join us to celebrate the opening of this spectacular show this Saturday 26 April, 1-3pm.

Register now to secure your spot at this FREE event - you'll be first to see all the works in GIGANTIC, and you’ll get to meet the artists involved.

Al’s superb sculptural works are made from industrial materials, waste materials, and discarded objects. Created in his studio in Yass, Al’s sculptures have been in numerous national art prizes.

His work in GIGANTIC is the eye-catching Narci-Sunnies - a huge sculpture of steel, recycled plastic and mirrors.

Ahead of the show opening, Al talked with us about the meaning behind the work, and how he hopes people feel when they see these super shades.

Tell us the story of this work.

“This work is a comment on social media and the narcissism that it encourages. Social media has allowed people to put themselves 'out there'. This has encouraged a certain level of self-interest, and a growing level of narcissism has prevailed. The mirrors on the inside of the glasses allow the wearer to view the person they are most interested in.”

Tell us about how you created your work.

“The body of the glasses is made from 6mm steel plate. The lenses are recycled plastic and mirror”

What do you hope people feel when they see your work?

“These sunnies are bright and colourful. I hope that when people first see them, it makes them feel happy."

Register now for the opening of GIGANTIC on Saturday 26 April, 1-3pm
