Ahead of the show opening, Talya told us about being inspired by fractal patterns, the 'ode to childhood' in her work Chalkboard, and feeling a sense of connection to the natural world.

How do you create your work?

"I work across various mediums, with a particular focus on large-scale oil and acrylic paintings on canvas."

"Guided by intuition, my work is catalysed by an unmethodical application of colour onto canvas. This stain, often made from leftover ink or paint-water, is refined, polished and detailed into a striking and coherent form."

What's the story behind the work in the show?

"Chalkboard is an ode to childhood. The textures expressed in the piece were inspired by a more analog time, depicting this iconic classroom staple from generations past. The piece whimsically references a chalkboard background, with both fresh and erased chalk marks. It juxtaposes this alongside playful colour and organised organic forms."

What inspires you?

"I am inspired by fractal patterns – such as those found on the veined surface of a leaf, the airway branches of the lungs and the river networks threaded through the terrain – that reverberate across disparate ecosystems."

What do you hope people feel when they see your work?

"I hope that through my work the viewer feels a sense of connection to the natural world, without a definitive reference to the forms within the piece."
