Jenny Johnson

I am a proud Wiradjuri woman and was born in Peak Hill NSW. I am a descendant of the Wiradjuri People and I have a strong cultural link to the traditional Wiradjuri lands through my mother.

I started painting in 2008 and am a self-taught indigenous artist who has adapted a unique mixed style of traditional and contemporary indigenous artworks.

As a new artist I have successfully sold a number of commissioned artworks, including my hand painted Christmas baubles both locally and internationally.

The inspirations for my artworks come from the landscapes and flora of the local areas around NSW and the ACT with the common theme in my artwork incorporating rivers, creeks, and water-holes as they are the basis for all life.

I paint mainly on canvas or canvas boards using acrylic paints and have also decorated a number of other traditional artefacts. I have also branched out into the apparel world by producing a limited number of ladies scarves and men’s ties by using my original artwork images.

“Now is the time to share my artwork and hope that others appreciate them as much as I enjoyed creating them. Jenny”

I have produced a number of individual artworks for the following organisations, including The Australian National University, Southern Tableland Arts, the Department of Defence, Department of Defence – DMTC Limited – Melbourne, and Yass Valley Tourist Information Centre.
