Claire is a Melbourne-based semi abstract artist who creates beautiful and joyful work characterised by vibrant colours, intricate layers and rich textures. We are huge fans of her work.

Ahead of the show opening, Claire told us about painting by intuition, timeless moments, and how she hopes her work offers a moment of serenity and joy.

Where do you create your work?

"My works are created in my back garden studio surrounded by native bird calls and with much loved pets close by."

How do you create your works?

"I'm an intuitive painter. I first consider a feeling or thought I want to embody and then begin by layering colours and patterns until an image starts to emerge. I will then reverse the process, peeling back the 'noise' until the essence of the feeling is distilled - and I can experience a sense of peace and completion."

What's the story behind Feel the Breeze - your work in Life in Colour?

"Feel the Breeze began as a happy memory of childhood, lying on the grass looking up at the sky watching cloud movies play to the hushed sounds of summer. In this piece the location is shifted to the shade of a tree and the focus shifts from the impossible blue of an endless sky to the rustling movement of the leaves in the breeze....imagine..."

"Suspended in the timelessness of the moment, the movement of the breeze whispers through the trees - the whisper of a life of possibility. Captured by the ease of movement, the flow of the breeze, watch as the unconscious dance of life unfolds. Twisting and turning to the endless ebb and flow of the energy of life as it flashes colour through the leaves, kicking up in fun and joyful abandonment against the setting sky."

What inspires you?

"Life, love, humanity and nature are all inspirations. The little things in life - the warmth of a beloved animal, the feel of the wind, the smell of fresh cut grass, the highs, lows and constants that measure a life's experience. And ultimately the unbridled belief in hope, opportunity and the power of connection."

How do you hope people feel when they see your work?

"I hope people feel uplifted when they view my work. That a quiet smile touches their lips and an ease fills their hearts. I hope that a breath, a moment, is taken and a sense of joy and serenity flows from this."
