Penny Verdich is superb painter of semi-abstract landscapes based in Sydney's Northern Beaches. Her beautiful, boldy-coloured works explore the lines, shapes and patterns of the landscape.

We absolutely LOVE her work, and are so delighted to welcome her back for Life in Colour.

Ahead of the show opening, Penny told us about untangling landscapes, being inspired by shapes, and how she hopes people feel when they see her beautiful work.

Where do you create your works?

"I draw and paint on location and then create finished artworks in my studio."

How do you create your works?

"Each artwork is based on drawings in my sketchbooks or in a concertina sketchbook on which there is a pre prepared background."

Tell us about the work in Life in Colour

"I live close to the foreshore of Sydney Harbour. Both works reflect the tangled foreshore that you see from the water. When you look closely the 'tangles' resolve into myriad colours, shapes and patterns."

What inspires you?

"I am inspired by both the small and immense, the colour and the shape of everything around me."

"In the landscape this might be the tiny plants of the understory or the vastness of the Australian outback. In my home or at a cafe it might be the colours, shapes and patterns of the coffee cup next to a vase of flowers."

What do you hope people feel when they see your work?

"I hope that their spirits are lifted!"

Register for the opening celebration of Life in Colour on Saturday 16 November here.
