Kim’s superb work in the show is called Perch. It’s mixed media on birch wood canvas, and inspired by the rock formations along Sydney’s coastline.

Ahead of the show, Kim told us about her filling her phone with photos of rocks, being inspired by natural geometry in nature, and how she hopes her beautiful work brings people a sense of calm.

How would you describe your work?

Sculptural and meditative.”

Tell us about where and how you create your work?

I create my work at home on Guringai Land in Sydney.”

“I am fortunate to live near the water and am fascinated by the local tidal rock formations. You should see the hundreds of rock photos I have on my phone! I reference these to generate my shapes and compositions, working to create a sense of flow and balance.”

What inspires you?

“The naturally existing geometry within nature. I studied Architecture and worked as a designer for over a decade, so I have a real appreciation for space, line and form. I love now observing these in the world around me.”

What do you hope people feel when they see your work?

“Calm and open.”

Living in Another World runs from 19-28 April at Tyger Gallery in Yass. The online catalogue for the show will go out to subscribers in the week before opening. Sign up here to make sure you don’t miss out.
