  • Talya Brookman studied Fine Art at the Pratt Institute in New York.

Brookman was born in London and raised in a large nomadic family who moved between Australia and the US. She settled in Sydney in 2009.

The constant movement in her formative years cultivated her sense of resilience and adaptability. The ability to take root in a foreign environment and create beauty in her surroundings is echoed in Brookman’s artistic practice, where she seeks to impose order on a chaotic landscape.

Brookman paints with a particular focus on large-scale oil and acrylic paintings on canvas.

Her work is catalysed by an application of colour which is then refined, polished and detailed into a striking and coherent form.

Her paintings explore fractal patterns that reverberate across disparate ecosystems.

Brookman delves into this natural order, creating works that resonate with a deep, intrinsic need for system and structure.

  • "Chalkboard is an ode to childhood.”

“The textures expressed in the piece are inspired by a more analog time, depicting this iconic classroom staple from generations past.”

“The piece whimsically references a chalkboard background, with both fresh and erased chalk marks. It juxtaposes this alongside playful colour and organised organic forms."

    Talya Brookman, 2024.
