Jules is a contemporary landscape painter living in Western Australia.
Jules draws inspiration from her farming background and her solo journeys through the outback.
She creates work reflecting on her experiences in these places. While inspired by nature, Jules' work often develops into an otherworldly interpretation, as she leans away from purely representational painting.
Her process is to allow each piece to develop intuitively as the work flows onto the canvas. Both composition and palette are determined intuitively.
She works predominantly in acrylics and enjoys the process of mark making in many forms. Particularly spatial representation through topographical and contour hatching.

“These three pieces were created using a monochromatic theme. Each piece is painted from a single colour (with pure white and black to adjust tone) - Magenta, Red Violet and Red Ochre.”
“I was thinking about how we don't need every colour in the box to see the intricacies of the world around us. We can be 'colour blind' and still see nuances.”
“After completing these pieces, I learned that the red colour spectrum is one that people who experience colour blindness have difficulty seeing.”
Jules Bulleid, 2024.
