  • Thom Crowhurst is a contemporary Australian/Hungarian artist based in Ngambri/Canberra, and a veteran of the Royal Australian Navy. His striking mixed media work draws from a long history working across street art, surrealism and cubism which he has unified into a unique and instantly recognisable visual language.

2024 has seen a productive year thus far with the opening of a new solo show, his private studio, and the creation of several works for high profile collectors and national competitions. He has also been selected as a Highly Commended finalist for the Napier Waller Art Prize and was a finalist in the 2024 Percival Portrait Prize.

Through his expressionist mark-making, he attempts to open a window to his soul to unveil his innermost self, and to illuminate questions of his own identity and life itself.

Often channeling the mental and physical pain caused as a result of his military service, Crowhurst unashamedly creates work with the most sincerity, and not to match anyone’s boring curtains.

His deeply personal figurative work is often devoid of specific time, place, gender and race as he attempts to explore questions of his own existence through his art.

  • “Through expressive mark making I have unified my history working in street art, cubism and surrealism into a unique visual language to explore themes and deep questions of self, life and the unknown.”

“I have stripped back all embellishments and extravagance from this humble work on paper to present a minimal show of pure colour and form.”

    Thom Crowhurst, 2024.
