  • Lorri Blackwell lives in the Riverina and is principally an oil painter of abstract landscapes.

She enjoys finding beauty in unexpected, often overlooked places, being particularly fascinated by textures, colours, and shapes found within natural materials: rocks, bark, shells and even rusty metals. She expands this micro view into large abstracted landscapes, incorporating symbols evolved directly from plein air observation. Lorri uses various viewpoints, often aerial, to capture the underlying geometry and rhythm of these landscapes.

Her inspiration comes from daily walks, visits to the outback, or more global images of the imagination. She hopes to take the viewer into these enigmatic landscapes to identify with the beauty but fragility of our natural environment and thus the urgency to conserve it.

  • Sandstone Country: Carnarvon Gorge was inspired by a very small section of sandstone wall in Sydney. Looking closely evoked an expansive landscape: cliffs, valleys, rocks, and the unique vegetation of Carnarvon Gorge Queensland. Beautiful rock art found here is witness to thousands of years of indigenous habitation.”
