The botanical mind’s eye | Amanda Ferguson
53.5cm x 43.5cm | Acrylic on wood panel | Australian Oak float frame.
This magnificent piece is part of the latest group show at Tyger, ‘I am trying to break your heart’.
Amanda says, “Recently I have begun to explore the idea of imagined plants through painting and collage. In this piece I wanted to use my favourite blues and indigos to create shapes suggestive of botanical and sea-scape ‘frankensteins’ – both familiar and new and also, perhaps, a little unsettling. In some ways I think these shapes and this aim reflect my ongoing concern about man’s impact on the natural world, and how plants respond to our use of chemicals and deliberate intrusion into their propagation processes. Yet there is also so much beauty where we have wreaked so much havoc.”
