Rachel Moodie - Your View

“Everyone has a place they go when they need to connect with the sublime, something grander, or simply be in ‘nature’. These views are inspired by my view - a cliff on Gundungurra land in the Southern Highlands of NSW. A view I visited with a friend who passed too soon. “

“These landscapes are pieced together from memories. They are my way of making sense of what does not make sense. Disparate ideas and feelings, rough marks, mixtures of media, uncontained edges are boxed into frames. Tended and tamed.”

“These artworks are my attempt to create order in chaos, to make sense of the dichotomies and all the conflicting emotions of ‘adult’ life. I wish to convey a sense of autonomous place and a sense of peace within it.”

“These landscapes are containers. Containers for thought and emotion to sit inside the everyday. They are boundless and unlimited but cut to size, cut to fit, bounded and boxed. Fitting all the grand feelings inside a box.”

“My views inform my work. BUT take one home and name it after yourself or a loved one. Take my view and make it yours - give it significance and meaning by naming it after someone special. That could be you or a loved one.”
