Penelope Sai is an Australian artist currently residing in Canberra, ACT. Describing her art as “landscape pushing towards abstraction”, she works in mixed media. Her paintings reflect her love of the countryside’s changing moods, in light and colour.

Her background is in music and she has enjoyed a career in the jazz world internationally with 5 album releases to date.

On canvas, Penelope works to capture vibrancy and movement, which, like jazz, comes from her spontaneity and love of improvisation.

Penelope has had 4 solo exhibitions and 5 group exhibitions with galleries in the Blue Mountains, Gerringong, Berry, Bungendore and Brisbane.

As a world traveller, who knows where Penelopes’ next inspiration will come from. Recent works have been inspired by vistas around Yass, Lake George and Bungendore. The Shoalhaven region is often a subject, and there are vibrant paintings from her recent sejour in Burgundy, France.

Escarpments, storms rolling in, coastal waterways, foggy hills, reflective sunsets and dramatic summer skies, can be seen in Penelope’s paintings.

The images have been captured quickly, inviting the observer to look deeper, tempting one to step a little closer, gaze a little longer, before the sun shifts, the tide turns or a fog lifts, and the brief magic moves on.
